JOHN DRAKE

DISTINGUISHED RESEARCH PROFESSOR, ODUM SCHOOL OF ECOLOGY

SUPPORT FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA IS MAKING IT POSSIBLE FOR US TO DEVELOP THE UNDERLYING THEORY AND STATISTICAL MODELS THAT WILL ONE DAY ALLOW US TO FORECAST FUTURE INFECTIOUS DISEASE OUTBREAKS. IT HAS ALSO ENABLED MY TEAM AND ME TO PROVIDE CRITICAL DATA ANALYSIS THAT IS INFORMING THE RESPONSE TO PUBLIC HEALTH EMERGENCIES LIKE THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC.

John Drake teamed up with 30 UGA scientists across disciplines to build and maintain the COVID-19 Portal, an interactive tool that forecasts outbreak scenarios based on models they created. Drake leads the Center for the Ecology of Infectious Diseases, a research hub that illuminates the connections between animal health, human health, and the environment.
